Bakery Review: Duck Donuts (Minneapolis, MN)

Admittedly, I am actually not a big doughnut fan. Or at least I didn't consider myself one until recently... I think it is mostly because the options in my hometown of Sioux Falls are pretty dismal. The only doughnut shops are generic doughnuts. Average raised and cake doughnuts piled high with candy toppings and mediocre icing. I'll pass on those.

But recently, I've found a new appreciation for doughnuts, most likely because I've had some really good doughnuts that deserve to be recognized. Enter Duck Donuts. Duck Donuts is actually a nationwide franchise but they are locally owned and operated in quite a few states across the country. Their claim to fame you might ask?? FRESH MADE, COMPLETELY CUSTOMIZABLE DOUGHNUTS. That's right. They make your doughnut to order right in front of you and you get served a piping hot circle of goodness.

They use vanilla cake doughnuts as their base, which means you get a dense and sweet ring of doughnut with a slightly crisp perfectly fried shell. From there it's time for toppings, a choose your own doughnut adventure if you will. Feeling plain? Try cinnamon and sugar. Need breakfast? Maple and bacon. Fruity? Try the seasonal peach cobbler. Basically the possibilites are endless when you think about all the different icings (vanilla, chocolate, maple, strawberry, etc) and then all the toppings (marshmallow, sprinkles, chocolate syrup, jelly, oreos, etc). They also have a good assortment of fan favorite and seasonal favorites when you aren't feeling like picking out everything yourself. And the best part? Each doughnut in your order can be different which means there is something for everyone.

I ended up with a seasonal "beach ball" doughnut which was vanilla icing drizzled with chocolate sauce and coated with rainbow sprinkles. It was SO GOOD. Seth and I devoured the doughnut in a minute #noshame. There is something so enjoyable about a piping hot doughnut with glaze dripping down the sides.

Basically, if you're near a duck donuts, give it a stop. PS heres a list of their locations https://www.duckdonuts.com/locations/
